Agate Magazine and Holy Cow! Press are teaming up to create a hive of bee activities in Duluth.
The highlight will be readings from If Bees are Few: A Hive of Bee Poems, an anthology of 2,500 years of poetry about bees, edited by James P. Lenfestey, published by University of Minnesota Press.
Three regional poets will join Jim: Duluth Poet Laureate Ellie Schoenfeld, Bart Sutter, author of eight books including poetry, prose, and theatre, and Connie Wanek, award-winning poet whose most recent book, Rival Gardens, received much praise.
In addition, Catherine Winter, a master gardener and former beekeeper, will talk about landscaping and gardening for pollinators. K & D’s Bees in Oliver, Wisconsin will offer honey samples and jars of honey for sale.
For 35 years Holy Cow! Press has published the work of authors from the Midwest, Native American writers, and themed anthologies with contributors from all over the country. Agate Magazine is an online magazine about nature, science and conservation in Minnesota and the surrounding Great Lakes Region.
The event is free and open to the public, Tuesday, May 16, 7 to 9 pm, at the Quaker Friends Meeting House, 1802 East 1st Street, Duluth. A reception follows, with refreshments and books for sale.
